Western Australia
Perth Habour
The wine industry in Western Australia was founded before that of both South Australia and Victoria.

Initially viticulture was confined to the Swan Valley with major influences from immigrants from Yugoslavia's Dalmatian Coast. A flagship wine from the west has been Houghton White Burgundy, created in 1937 from the State's largest winery, and still going strong.

Planting at Margaret River, one of Australia's most appealing tourist destinations - and home to magnificent Chardonnays, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Cabernet Sauvignon - began in the 1960's. The Great Southern region taking in places like Albany, Denbarker, Denmark, Frankland, Mount Barker and Porongurup has a climate similar to that of Bordeaux with site selection allowing the production of virtually every wine style.

The newest region is Pemberton / Warren Valley where Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are the dominant varieties.

The wine panorama of Western Australia is completed with the Geographe region, which used to be in part of the South Western Coastal Plain and the Perth Hills. Here most varieties are grown with great success.
